« What is IoT ? » with Eliane Fiolet
Girlz In Web Paris is back to school with a session about the Internet of Things (IoT) (a.k.a Internet of Things), presented by Eliane Fiolet.
With 8,4 billion connected objects in the world in 2017, (a 31% growth from 2016), Gartner estimates that 8.4 billion connected “Things” will be in use by 2020 (Source: Gartner January 2017).
In the B2B sector, the spending dedicated to IoT, apps, and solutions will reach $267 billion by 2020 according to Forbes.
But, IoT, what is it today?
For the past five years, IoT has become a trendy word among the innovation leaders, specifically in France, a country that has experienced an exponential growth of the number of its startups focused on IoT and hardware development.
Since 2014, the French presence at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (CES) is becoming more visible every year, thanks to its large and growing number of startups exhibiting at the show!
From 22% of all the startups exhibiting in 2014, the French startups represented nearly “a third of all the startups” at CES 2016, according to Fortune Magazine, and 25 of them were selected as CES Innovation Honorees in 2016. In 2017, the number of French hardware companies grew even more to 238, alongside the number of the Innovation Honorees French winners, to reach 30 that same year.
However, for a lot of innovators in the “traditional” digital industry (a.k.a. the web, mobile software, B2B software), IoT is still a term that encompasses a broad and fragmented reality, in which it is difficult to decipher the buzz word from the effective value proposition.
If you are not an expert in IoT and you would like to understand better the fast-growing IoT market and how it is changing the digital industry, come to this session presented by Eliane Fiolet.
